Historical castle “ Château Peltzer ”: unique architectural style combined with a noble ambience as a stately home, a large luxury hotel ( with advance enquiry for 52 room) or event location in an excellent geographical location in the border triangle of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
“ Château PELZER” is…
A fascinating location with an impressive atmosphere in the „Wallonia’s water capital , Verviers „.
Verviers enjoyed a long-standing worldwide reputation as a centre for the wool trade and the textile industry, aided by its idyllic location in the valley of the river Vesdre. Nowadays, the town appeals to both residents and visitors alike with its ideal location in terms of transport, as well as its countless fine merchants’ houses and works of art dating back to the age of historicism.
With its many newly refurbished fountains and water features, as well as its excellent geographical location (just thirty kilometres from the German border and approximately two kilometres from Verviers city centre), your new estate will provide the ideal venue for staging events and festivities. Your guests will benefit from the convenience of being close to major roads, while the château itself is set amid ravishing English-style grounds totalling 6 hectares (15 acres), with approximately 11.200 m² (2¾ acres) belonging directly to the château.
You are cordially invited to discover Château Peltzer and the riches of its historical past. Come and experience this enchanting adventure with us!
A majestic location
Situated in the “Pays des Trois Frontières”, between the cities of Maastricht (NL), Aachen (D) and Liège (B), some thirty kilometres from the border with Germany.
The Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, which hosts the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix each year, is located approximately 25 km from the château.
The château used to have a special licence allowing helicopters to land in its grounds; this licence requires reinstating.
Access to the R61 motorway is in the immediate vicinity.
Public transport also stops very close to the château.
The nearest international airports are those at Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Brussels and Amsterdam.
A refinement of several stylistic periods of architectural history
The château, set in undulating grounds, was built in 1893 in the English neo-Gothic style by the Peltzer family of textile entrepreneurs, who originally came from just across the border in Aachen. The immediate surroundings of the château are extremely pleasant, located as they are far from the smoky air of the city.
After 1938, when the widow of the château’s original builder died, this magnificent edifice endured some hard times, until 1993 when Georges Peltzer agreed to sell his property, anxious to preserve such an important witness to his family’s history and to enterprise in Wallonia.
Then, until 2012, the family of Jean Thomas, manager of the famous “Eau Rouge” restaurant in Francorchamps, took on responsibility for redeveloping and renovating this splendid property – a task that was demanding from every point of view. In doing so, the family added a period of fine dining to the house’s already prestigious reputation and history, along with all of the style and expertise required.
The château was then taken over by a high-end events agency and can now be booked for a wide range of occasions and events, with catering included.
The location is ideally suited for this purpose, whether it’s for weddings or communions, corporate parties or festive events, photo sessions or as a setting for films or television programmes.
A unique architectural style, combined with a refined atmosphere
Château Peltzer (which also includes a concierge’s) features living areas and workable space of approximately 2.818 m².
The roof of the château requires partial renovation in the section formerly devoted to the stables, as well as a general refresh to enable the property to be restored to its former luxurious splendour.
At Château Peltzer, the special features from this period of neo-Gothic style so adored by lovers of architectural history, can be seen in the pillars and capitals, the finely crafted stonework, the ornamental elements and various original fireplaces, etc.
In 1993-1994, the château benefited from significant renovation works carried out meticulously by the Queen of South company, using reclaimed building materials, including in particular old oak panelling, marble plaques and other antiques.
A new architectural design in the development of the hotel project
The development of the hotel project, based on a meticulously thought-out conversion concept and design, blends harmoniously into the landscape, creating an interesting contrast with the existing walls, while remaining so well balanced it almost goes unnoticed.
The main requirement was to create an architectural design that did not compete with the château’s existing structures.
This discreet approach is further enhanced by the cleverly planted roof, which is both environmentally friendly an aesthetically pleasing, as well as by the glazed rear façade.
Thanks to as skiful combination of materials, the transition between the old and new building elements, linked by a glass passageway, has a fluid appearance.
The wellness space is planned to include an outdoor swimming pool and will be impressive in its own right, providing an irresistible centre of attraction for even the most avid and accomplished fans of exercise.
In total, there will be 52 guestrooms ( suites an doubles with a range of different features). There will also be a restaurant open to the public and many other amenities for visitors and guest alike. In an ideal world, there could be as many as 80 guestrooms, offering the services and facilities of a five-star hotel.
