This housing development is located in the parish of São Martinho, municipality of Funchal, in a tourist area, where the surrounding environment is dominated by hotels, accommodations, and some commercial units. The area benefits from good pedestrian and road access, as well as public transportation. Architecture The “Casas Brancas” development is set on a rectangular-shaped plot of approximately 3,322 m². In terms of layout, the aim was to optimize and take full advantage of the land's topography, with the goal of enhancing both the use of the space and creating new, well-proportioned street frontages at an appropriate scale. To achieve this, the natural terrain was preserved in the areas surrounding the built volumes, which were positioned on the dominant elevation levels, thus keeping the rest of the land as natural as possible. The staggered construction is organized along a north-south axis across the plot, allowing for better integration of the buildings into the landscape.
